This Cookie Policy explains how Vela uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and platform. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
We comply with the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR. Where required, we obtain your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device when you visit them. We also use similar technologies including local storage and session storage. In this policy, "cookies" refers to all of these.
Categories of cookies we use
We group cookies into three categories.
Strictly necessary
These cookies are essential for Vela to function. Without them, you cannot sign in, navigate the platform, or use core features. We do not need your consent to use these cookies under PECR.
- sb-access-token — authentication (Supabase), session lifetime
- sb-refresh-token — authentication refresh (Supabase), 7 days
- vela_session — session continuity, session lifetime
- __stripe_mid — fraud prevention (Stripe), 1 year
- __stripe_sid — fraud prevention (Stripe), 30 minutes
- cookie_consent_state — stores your cookie preferences, 1 year
Analytics
These cookies help us understand how visitors use the platform so we can improve it. They are not essential. We only place them with your consent.
- _ph_* — product analytics (PostHog, EU-hosted, anonymous), up to 1 year. PostHog privacy policy
- _ga, _ga_* — marketing analytics (Google Analytics 4), 2 years. Google privacy policy
Functional
These cookies remember your preferences, such as your chosen theme. They are not essential, but they make the service more pleasant to use. We place them with your consent.
- vela_theme — remembers your selected theme, 1 year
- vela_sidebar_state — remembers sidebar collapsed/expanded state, 1 year
Your choices
When you first visit Vela, a cookie banner appears with three options: accept all, reject non-essential, or customise by category. Your choice is saved for 12 months.
You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the cookie preferences link in the footer of any Vela page, or by going to Settings → Privacy → Cookie preferences.
Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies through their settings, though doing so may break sign-in and other core features.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third-party services we use: Stripe for payment fraud prevention, PostHog for product analytics, and Google Analytics for marketing analytics. We do not control third-party cookies — they are governed by each provider's own policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you in-product, update the effective date above, and re-prompt for consent if the cookies in use have changed materially.
